Forklifts are essential lifting and transport equipment used in industrial operations. Incorrect use, lack of maintenance, or operating faulty machinery can lead to serious workplace accidents, property damage, and operational downtime. Therefore, conducting periodic inspections of forklifts is both a legal requirement and a critical component of safe working practices.

2.1 What Is the Forklift Periodic Inspection Interval?

According to the Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment – Annex III, Maintenance, Repair, and Periodic Inspection Requirements, Article 1.4:

“Unless otherwise specified in relevant standards, periodic inspections and controls of work equipment shall be carried out in accordance with the intervals and criteria defined by the manufacturer. If the manufacturer does not specify any interval, the inspection frequency shall be determined based on risk assessment, taking into account environmental conditions, frequency of use, and duration of use at the workplace. The determined inspection interval must not exceed one year except in special circumstances.”

Based on this regulation:

✔ Forklifts must undergo periodic inspection at least once a year.
✔ In cases of intensive use or harsh working environments, inspections should be performed more frequently.

Performing these inspections is mandatory by law, and the responsibility lies with the employer.

2.2 What Is the Forklift Periodic Inspection Regulation?

Periodic inspections of forklifts are regulated under the “Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment”, issued within the scope of the Labor Law.

According to Annex III, Section 2.2, Article 2.2.1 titled Lifting and Conveying Equipment:

“Unless otherwise specified in the standards, lifting and conveying equipment must be capable of safely lifting and holding at least 1.25 times the declared load and must be equipped with sufficient and reliable load brakes.”

As forklifts are classified as lifting and conveying equipment, they must be inspected according to the relevant standards and safety criteria specified in this regulation.
