Geophysical Engineering Seismic Surveys

Seismic surveys in geophysical engineering involve recording seismic signals generated by artificial sources that produce vibrations—known as elastic waves—on the ground surface. As these waves propagate through the subsurface, they refract or reflect depending on the physical properties of the geological layers they encounter. The returning seismic signals are recorded and evaluated using specialized analytical methods to determine the characteristics of the subsurface materials.

Soil (Geotechnical) Investigation

A soil investigation is conducted to determine the conditions and characteristics of the underground layers, including their positions, geological composition, depths, thicknesses, densities, electrical resistivities, seismic velocities, accelerations, groundwater level, and other dynamic parameters. Soil investigations also aim to assess the behavior of these layers in the event of an earthquake and evaluate the overall strength and stability of the ground.
