Milling Machine Inspection
MACHINE AND EQUIPMENT INSPECTION
A milling machine is a type of machine tool used to shape a workpiece using a cutting tool with multiple cutting edges. Unlike lathes, where the workpiece rotates, in milling machines the rotary motion is performed by the cutting tool itself. Milling machines consist of several working components such as the machine body, head, table, spindle, base, carriage, console, handwheel, bearings, and lighting unit.
The machine body supports the entire mechanism securely and prevents vibration and shaking during operation. Milling machines used in industrial facilities and factories come in many different types.
Types of Milling Machines
- Column milling machine
- Knee-type milling machine
- Horizontal milling machine
- Vertical milling machine
- Plano milling machine
- Copy milling machine
- Universal milling machine
- Electronic milling machine
- Hydraulic milling machine
- Special-purpose milling machines
Periodic Inspection Requirement
Milling machines fall under the scope of the “Regulation on Health and Safety Requirements for the Use of Work Equipment.”
According to this regulation, milling machines must undergo periodic inspection at least once a year, including relevant functional and safety tests.
Regulation on Health and Safety Requirements for the Use of Work Equipment
The purpose of this regulation is to define the minimum health and safety requirements for the use of work equipment in workplaces. It applies to all workplaces covered under the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331, dated 20/06/2012.
The regulation was prepared based on Articles 30 and 31 of Law No. 6331, Articles 2 and 12 of Law No. 3146 on the Organization and Duties of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, and in alignment with European Union Directive 2009/104/EC, dated 03/10/2009.
