Band saws, which are used to cut all types of wood in desired dimensions, are equipped with cutting blades of various diameters. A band saw consists of several components, including the machine body, table, wheels, protective covers, saw guide, blade, and motor.

Commonly referred to as “deveboynu” or “hızar” in everyday language, the band saw operates using the power received from an electric motor. These machines are widely used in woodworking shops and log-processing facilities. Cutting operations are performed by the continuous vertical movement of the saw blade rotating around two wheels—one positioned at the bottom and the other at the top.

As a highly dangerous machine, the band saw must undergo regular maintenance and inspections. Band saws are subject to the “Regulation on Health and Safety Requirements for the Use of Work Equipment.” According to this regulation, band saws must be inspected periodically at least once a year.

Regular inspections ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements, reduce the risk of accidents, and extend the machine’s operational lifespan.

Regulation on Health and Safety Requirements for the Use of Work Equipment

The purpose of this regulation is to define the minimum health and safety requirements that must be observed in the use of work equipment within workplaces. It applies to all workplaces covered under the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331, dated 20/06/2012.

This regulation was prepared based on Articles 30 and 31 of Law No. 6331, Articles 2 and 12 of Law No. 3146 on the Organizational Structure and Duties of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, and in parallel with the European Union Directive 2009/104/EC, dated 03/10/2009.
